Dogs, cats and other household pets are some of the most sincerely genuine, loving creatures on this planet. Dogs in particular exhibit emotional attachment and distress when a loved one is ill or passes away. Working dogs are our new animal heroes in the 21st Century. Therapy dogs are just one of these types of heroes. A therapy dog or an Animal Assisted Activity (AAA)/ Therapy Dog, is a dog who has been trained along with it's handler to go out into the community and visit area hospitals, retirement centers, adult day care centers, libraries and schools among other routine venues comforting and bringing joy to those in need. Therapy work with dogs can be one of the most rewarding volunteer services that an individual can do with their pet. Seeing the smile on a persons face when a volunteers pet brings back the memories of their own beloved pet is a reward in itself. Children will lose the fear of reading out loud, in front of their peers, when they can read to an attentive dog instead. Grief stricken adults and children find comfort and love when they can wrap their arms around a big woolly dog's head. The benefits of having a well-trained AAA handler and dog team make for a world of difference in making everyday heroes. |

The first rule in successful dog training is to be smarter than the dog. Which is why some breeds are easier to train than others. |
